Making the most of visiting the Netherlands (Quick editing ideas)

Updated: Apr 4, 2020

So last week was all about Amsterdam, this week’s post will be all about Holland and the interesting places that can be explored. My favourite part of Holland is being able to visit a huge forest and end up at a beach towards the end of it. There are also lots of villages to stop at on the journey. Although Holland is not necessarily known for its beaches, one of the prettiest beaches I have visited is at Overeen. Another notable place includes Edam if you love cheese as much as I do, it is like visiting a dream!

The question is what you do once you have visited these places, you have lots of photos and videos that stay on your phone or camera and don’t get looked at again. Some video ideas can include ‘one minute in Holland’ or ‘best places to visit,’ this kind of editing gives you a chance to reflect on your journey, pick your best moments and relive the trip. I have tried and tested several video apps that you can use on your mobile to get the best out of your videos. This is no means a comprehensive list as there are loads of apps available and it also depends on the make of your phone, your needs and price range.

The first one is Video Editor, for the premium edition, it costs £9.99 a month so is the most expensive. It has 4.5 stars on both app stores and over 13k reviews.

This app is very user-friendly and easy to navigate. It also gives the opportunity to include copyright free music that are separated into categories, making it easy to pick the best soundtrack. I like this app as there is a lot to use even if you don’t want to pay for the premium version, there are a couple of adverts for the premium version, but this is not overwhelming, the premium features are also easily shown. You can also use filters over the footage which especially helps when you are on the move and the video quality is not the best. Once picking out all the footage I wanted to use, it only took around 20 mins for me to put organise, set the text, include music and export the video.

The second is Splice, Spice pro costs £9.49 a month or £2.79 for 7 days, which is good if you only have a couple of projects to edit. It has 4.5 stars on app stores and over 19k reviews. This app has a professional feel and some great animations.

There is a lot you can do with content but most of the editing options are only available to Slice pro users such as adding music. If you have the pro version there are lots more filters but the music choice seems to be limited. There are also a lot more adverts for pro which can sometimes be distracting when trying to apply something to the footage. It did take longer to complete my video, but this was mainly due to so many different options that I needed to test. This app would be good if you have a lot to edit and film a lot of footage.

The third is Apple’s own IMovie, this is available free on most Apple devices. The downside to this is it is only available on Apple devices however there are android versions. This has 4 out of 5 stars and 11k reviews. Again, this app is user-friendly but does not have all the options that the previous apps have. It does have customisation on titles available and more free fonts. Although this is a free app it is professional and the music available was more suited to my video making needs. There are no adverts which is great for the creative process. I would try this one first (or a similar android version) and see how far you can get with it and if it has everything you need. It is great for learning the editing skill that can then be utilised on more complicated/ expensive editing software.

Your friends, family, and fans will be more interested in watching the highlights of your trip instead of 200+ photos and 15 long videos. Please let me know if you have enjoyed this week’s content!
